The number of man-made objects orbiting the earth has significantly increased in recent years, highlighting the pressing need to establish a safe and functional orbital environment for all users. To address this issue, various satellite services have been developed, like rideshare and last-mile delivery services, that are already widely used. There are many more innovative capabilities that are soon to become commercially available.
The future holds great potential for satellite services, like satellite refuelling, servicing, repair, and end-of-life removal. The ability to upgrade, refuel, and recycle satellites in space could result in significant cost savings, as opposed to the current practice of disposing of satellites at the end of their life.
The development of these technologies is crucial to safeguarding the orbital environment, ensuring effective access to space, while promoting sustainability and equitable access to all users.
